China’s GDP growth remained stable at 5.0%, unchanged from 2024 and well above the 2.3% pandemic-era level in 2020, despite continued property sector challenges and weak domestic demand. China’s dependence on net oil imports rose to 72.7%, slightly above both 2024 and 2020 levels, underscoring persistent energy security concerns as well as stockpiling building efforts.
Coal’s share in China’s energy mix fell further to 51.4% in 2025, down from 56.7% in 2020 and 53.2% in 2024, indicating continued progress in energy transition despite heightened energy security concerns.
