Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam dismisses suggestion Beijing officials in city have formed shadow government
Hong Kong’s leader has brushed aside suggestions that Beijing’s officials in the city were forming a “second governing team”, after the liaison office vowed to make its public outreach campaign regular. Instead, Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said on Sunday that it was good for officials to have a better understanding of the city, as a lot of policies needed the central government’s help. Lam was seemingly under pressure to meet Beijing’s expectations after the liaison office launched a public outreach campaign a week before her policy address last Wednesday.
