China on Monday staged a funeral for Yuan Longping, the agronomist known as “the father of hybrid rice”, with large crowds gathering in the central city of Changsha.Yuan died on Saturday aged 90. The funeral ceremony, held at Mingyangshan funeral home in Changsha on Monday morning, drew tens of thousands of people from across the country.
