Sky Views: I hope I'm wrong about China
When I first moved to China I remember being concerned that our cameraman would bear the brunt of any physical violence on stories, as the authorities might be reluctant to hit a woman in public. I needn't have worried. In the nearly three years since, I have been hit in the face, pushed, shoved, threatened, had a hand around my throat, and been grabbed so hard the man's thumbnail broke my skin and drew blood. I was asked the other day why we don't just report this to the police as assault and I didn't have a good response, beyond that it would take hours and achieve nothing.
