China is taking on Wikipedia with a new online encyclopedia, an enormous project which has prompted debate from scholars on how open the platform should be. The digital encyclopedia, which will be launched online next year, represents the country’s biggest ever publishing project, with contributions from more than 20,000 experts. Previous paper editions of the encyclopedia in China - published in 1993 and 2012 - have been criticised for being influenced by political dogma from the Chinese government. Read more
