'China has only one real ally'

In an interview with The New York Times published on Tuesday, Yan Xuetong, director of the Institute for International Relations at Beijing's Tsinghua University, said, "China has only one real ally, Pakistan." Close ties with Pakistan offer obvious benefits to Beijing: The country counter-balances India, one of China's top regional rivals, and gives China a strategic reach into Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Indian Ocean basin. Read more
