A Swedish co-founder of a nongovernmental organization that operated from Beijing with the aim of providing legal aid to Chinese citizens and training civil and human rights lawyers here has apologized for engaging in activities harmful to the nation, according to a report published Tuesday by Xinhua, the state news agency. The report said that the Swede, Peter Dahlin, 35, a co-founder of the Chinese Urgent Action Working Group, told officials that he had “undertaken activities in China in violation of Chinese law, and harmed the government and the people of China, for which I offer deep apologies.” Read more
