China and the Expulsion of Foreign Journalists

Last week, the White House said it was “very disappointed” in China for denying a visa to another journalist working for The New York Times in Beijing—thus forcing him to leave the country after eight years.  This move left us wondering what more the U.S. government might do, and what American civil society might do, too?
